ICT as Medium for Advocacy

 

"EDUCATION WITH AND WITHOUT ICT"

        Back in the days when we are in elementary/ grade school, ICT or other technologies and multimedia are still limited. as we might know, the way of teaching, learning, studying and etc. have extremally improve. And this is the result of the introduction of ICT in the education systems here in the Philippines.

      In our elementary days, everything is taught and executed traditionally. Such as the way of teaching. Where the teachers or students prepare visual aids like a manila paper and other printed pictures when teaching or presenting. Then the students need to write every word in their notebook and then pass it to their teachers. But now that we are in senior high school, where technologies and ICT have already influenced us. Making a presentation and presenting it has become way easier. Because we can create any presentation in a minute by just searching and getting all the information that we need in our PowerPoint presentation. We can also create a more creative and informative presentation through the use of ICT. The students are now also not required to take notes because the teacher could just share the files with everyone. 

        When seminars or any event happen in our school, way back in elementary. Everything is done traditionally or in the old ways where there is someone incharge for leading a prayer and conducting  singing of the national anthem. where as in the present since, everyone mostly use ICT seminars could be done virtually and the prayer and national anthem are played using multimedia such as PowerPoint presentations, video or audio.

        Teachers have one of the most toughest jobs because, they need to learn what they are going to teach, evaluate and guide their students, the amount of paper works are also tremendous that they even do it while they are at home. ICT is a great help for a lot of teachers because instead of writing the and computing the grades of the students manually on their class records. They can now input the grades on excel and it computes automatically after putting the formula. ICT did not just lessen the amount of work that teachers need to do but, it also saves time.

        As much as it helps the teachers, ICT is also a big help to a lot of students, especially nowadays. ICT gives students free access to education wherein they can search a lot of things related to their studies. When I was in elementary when doing assignments and research. I would always have to re-study the whole lesson just to answer my assignments or ask my teachers or my parents to explain it to me. But now that I have ICT, I can easily access information that is related to my assignment and research. It also sometimes provides tutorials that help me understand the lessons more.

        Therefore, the changes that ICT has brought in the education of the Filipinos are so diverse that it covers and helps everyone who wants to learn and those who seek to educate. The way of learning has improved that it enables learner to gain more knowledge search anything that they would like to know using ICT. It also made the lives of teachers and students easier. ICT gives us a lot of advantages but there are also some disadvantages. Such as the more students have become dependent into using ICT that it affects their lives and capabilities to do things on their own. But, despite this we cannot reject the fact that it helps us a lot in different kinds of things that it became part of our lives. To avoid the negative impacts of ICT we must learn on how to properly use it.

What is multimedia?

    We encounter the word multimedia a lot of time, we use it in our everyday life and it helps us to have an easier life. Multimedia from the latin word  "MULTUS" which means multiple or many and "MEDIA" or medium for communication or something that communicates and expressed. It is the presentation of information and instructions that  are interactive or not. Just like what is told in the module, multimedia could be seen in different forms such as text, graphics, drawings, and images, audio, video, and animations. As we have learned multimedia has different types and functions. we can use it on different purpose and instances.

        Multimedia gives different functions in our lives, our smart phones, our laptops, our printers, websites, etc. That we commonly use in our everyday lives as a student is an example of multimedia. These objects helps us to gather, create, and access information and knowledge. Multimedia is a powerful way to inform, entertain and market to people. there are several advantages and disadvantages given to learn more about multimedia. Major delivery mechanism of the multimedia presentation mainly includes CD ROM and DVD, the internet, computer, games and displays. Multimedia are commonly used for education and training, in presenting or for presentation, entertainment, sales and marketing.

As an individual or student how do I use multimedia? 

    Multimedia has been very useful to me as a student because it helps me connect with my classmates and teachers despite the distance and learn some of the difficult lessons through watching video tutorials and reading blogs and infographics. Multimedia is a safe space if we know how to use it properly but, if we don't we could get hacked or scammed or we might encounter malwares. That's why when I use multimedia such as accessing websites. I always check if the website is safe and doesn't have any suspicious adds because it might have virus and destroy my computer. another example is how I use my cellphone another type of multimedia that posses all of the elements of a multimedia. it is where in can store video, pictures, graphics, files, take picture, record audios, etc. I always bring my mobile phone with me, it's probably the same with anyone ells because we have been to emersed in using our mobile phones and other multimedia in our everyday lives.

   What is the significance of multimedia?

         Multimedia is important just like what is stated on the previous paragraphs it helps us in our everyday lives. It helps in improving our economy, develop products and new technologies that will be helpful to a lot of people. Multimedia is a flexible medium that could be used in a lot of fields such as business, education, entertainment, home, public places etc. Since, it could be used in sales/marketing presentation, staff training application, trade show production, company advertisement, entertainment as well as for educational purpose. If we use multimedia in presenting it increases the quality, creativity and content of our presentations that could make more people engage in our presentations whether it in in audio, video or text.

    Therefore, multimedia is very important as it has a lot of roles in our lives, our society, and in other fields. It make our lives easier and it boost our knowledge,  creativity and lessen the difficulty of the things that we need to do. Multimedia has become more like the backbone of the society that it helps on the ongoing improvement of our economy and the people living there. Thus, as a student studying Empowerment technology, it is important that we know how to access and what are the things that we need to be aware of anything that we need to know about multimedia.

RECREATING ADVOCACY

Mental Health Awareness 
is A Must!

        Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood. Over the course of our life, we can experience mental health problems, and our thinking, mood, and behavior could be affected. Many factors contribute to mental health problems.

         As senior high school students, we face a lot of problems and stress that affect our emotional and mental health. These problems make us unstable physically and mentally. It made us perform poorly on the things we usually do. We can experience different types of mental illnesses or disorders, and they can often occur at the same time. Mental illnesses can occur over a short period of time or be episodic. This means that mental illness comes and goes with discrete beginnings and ends. Mental illness can also be ongoing or long-lasting.

   

"Early Warning Signs Of Mental Health Problem"

       The following are the early warning signs of mental health problems according to Public Health Nigeria (2021).

• Pulling away from people and usual activities
• Having low or no energy
• Eating or sleeping too much or too little.
• Feeling numb or like nothing matters.
• Having unexplained aches and pains.
• Feeling helpless or hopeless.
• Smoking, drinking, or using drugs more than usual.
• Feeling unusually confused, forgetful, on edge, angry, upset, worried, or scared.
• Yelling or fighting with family and friends.
• Experiencing severe mood swings that cause problems in relationships.
• Having persistent thoughts and memories you can't get out of your head.
• Hearing voices or believing things that are not true.
• Thinking of harming yourself or others.
• Inability to perform daily tasks.

        As shown on the infographic above by, mental health problems could also be seen physically and not just emotionally and mentally. So, the best solution we can do is to be aware of the signs. This might be useful in the future to help a friend, or anyone suffering from mental problems that are not aware of these signs.

        As shown in the infographic,  we can boost our mental health by simply doing the things that we like. taking care of our mental health is very important, through doing simple and engaging stings we can avoid stress ang other mental problems.

        We must prevent mental health problems before it starts. If we encounter problems that we cannot handle we must seek for help from a doctor our close family and friends. 

   Therefore, we must learn more about mental health problems, its causes, effects and how can we prevent or cope up with it. Selfcare and love is what we need, we must stay away from stress and make ourselves physically and mentally strong and healthy. be ware of the signs and know what to do to prevent further mental health problems.
